Neurostructural correction and pregnancy...
the natural combination

At no other time in a woman's life is the incredible adaptive capacity of the human body more obvious than during pregnancy. The changes in body chemistry and function that accompany pregnancy are absolutely amazing. These changes are all aimed at creating an optimal environment for the developing fetus.
Pregnancy should be a time of great joy and anticipation. But tremendous changes take place in the mother's body in a very short period of time. Unfortunately, as pregnancy progresses, some of the comforts afforded the fetus can compromise the mother's spine and nervous system integrity.
NeuroStructural Correction during all stages of pregnancy is NOT ONLY to help alleviate aches and pains. A NeuroStructural Shift in mother's spine disrupts vital communications between the "Internal Operating System" (brain and spinal cord) and all the organs, tissues, and systems of the body.
Every year, more and more obstetricians and midwives are referring their pregnant patients to NeuroStructural Chiropractors. Regular NeuroStructural adjustments help ensure a healthy and comfortable pregnancy.

breech positions and the webster technique

As baby develops in the womb, mother's uterus enlarges to accommodate the rapid growth. So long as mother's lower spine and pelvis is in NeuroStructural balance, all the ligaments and connective tissues maintain an equalized, supportive suspension for the uterus. But if the structure of the lower spine and pelvis shifts out of balance, it results in many Secondary Conditions, including "intra-uterine constraint." The once safe and protective environment for baby becomes constrained, and prevents baby from assuming an optimal position for birth.
After the seventh month of pregnancy, baby needs to be in a neutral head-down position, known as "vertex" (vertical). If baby is not vertex, it is because of intra-uterine constraint -- mother's ligaments and muscles causing outside pressure on her developing baby.
Imagine the pelvis as a basketball hoop, and all the supporting ligaments and muscles as the net. If the hoop's structure is not balanced and round, the "netting" will twist and constrain baby from moving into a healthy position of ease for birth.
"The Webster Technique is a specific Chiropractic analysis and adjustment which reduces interference to the nervous system, improving function of the pelvic muscles and ligaments, leading to the reduction of constraint to the woman's uterus allowing the fetus the best opportunity to be positioned for a healthy birth." (International Chiropractic Pediatric Association)
Webster Technique is not a manual "baby turning" technique or obstetrical maneuver. It is a specific Chiropractic analysis and adjustment protocol intended to correct nerve interference and the biomechanics of mother's spine and pelvis. This, in turn, allows an easier environment for baby to move into a natural, neutral position.
To date, there are more than 15 published articles showing the effectiveness of the Webster Technique in the Third Trimester.
